Thank you to our donors and sponsors

Local leaders around the state will get the tools they need to make the best decisions for their communities as a result of our donors’ and sponsors’ generosity. Thank you!

MML Foundation Board Chairwoman Pat Lockwood thanks donors and shares how their investment will impact local communities.

This year’s League Convention in beautiful Holland included a Foundation reception at lakeside Boatwerks, sponsored by DTE Energy, KeyBank and the Martin Waymire communications firm.

The views did not disappoint, with the sunset turning Lake Macatawa’s waters different shades of orange as our guests enjoyed an outdoor area with a fire pit, lawn games and great company.

More than 160 people bought tickets to the event, which also featured Dutch dancers and samples from Holland’s Our Brewing Co.

Donations will go toward making sure that local leaders have access to much-needed training, including:

  • The John Barr Leadership Education Scholarship. Five one-time scholarships of up to $1,000 for training of local elected or appointed officials are awarded yearly. The training must have a leadership component and practical application to the individual’s role as a public official in municipal government. The training may not be partisan.Current membership, in good standing, is required. The application deadline is Nov. 30.
  • The Tim Doyle Scholarship. The focus is on selecting primarily newly elected officials to attend the Elected Officials Academy Core Weekender, although veteran officials will not be excluded from consideration. The application deadline will be announced later this year.
Dutch dancers entertained and mingled with our guests.
