The Michigan Municipal League Foundation seeks to encourage youth involvement in communities and training of local elected officials. We offer the following scholarships:
New in 2017: The John Barr Leadership Education Scholarship offers five yearly one-time scholarships of up to $1,000 for training that provides local elected and appointed officials the knowledge and skills they need to lead and govern their communities. The training may not be partisan.
The Timothy Doyle Scholarship Fund helps train newly elected local officials by sending them to the elected official academy’s core weekender in February.
The George D. Goodman Fund helps to encourage young people to be involved and interested in local government by sending students to the Michigan Municipal League’s Capital Conference held in Lansing each spring.
Each year the National League of Cities holds its Congress of Cities in varying cities across the nation, and the Youth Scholarship Fund selects high schools students to attend based on an essay contest.
