Michigan Municipal League Foundation Selects New President
Gisgie Dávila Gendreau to Lead Fundraising Organization

LANSING, Michigan – Gisgie Dávila Gendreau has been named president of the Michigan Municipal League Foundation.

Gendreau has an extensive background in strategic communications and building partnerships in state and local government. She joined the League in January of 2017 to lead the League’s Foundation, foster new partnerships, and identify ways to best serve League members. She was officially selected as the Foundation’s president during the Foundation Board of Directors’ regular meeting today (Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017).
“We are very excited to have Gisgie lead our Foundation,” said Pat Lockwood, Fenton Mayor Pro Tem and Chair of the Michigan Municipal League Foundation Board of Directors. “Gisgie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organization and we’re looking forward to having her guide us into the future.”

Gendreau said she looks forward to building partnerships to support vibrant communities in Michigan by funding placemaking projects and educating community leaders and advocates.
“From Allegan to Copper City, Michigan’s communities are our greatest centers of potential,” she said. “That’s why our Foundation board members and I are deeply committed to enhancing and developing leadership opportunities for local elected and appointed officials.”

Prior to coming to the League, she was communications director for the Michigan Department of State, a position she held since 2011. Previously, Gendreau was marketing and public relations director for the Michigan Department of Human Services and prior to that she provided strategic communications guidance for the Michigan Education Association, Michigan Department of Information Technology, and Michigan State University.
Gendreau earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Michigan State University and spent a decade as a journalist for the Booth Newspapers capitol bureau and the Lansing State Journal. She brings a strong background in partnership development and leading strategic communications in the education, nonprofit and government sectors.

A native of Puerto Rico, Gendreau and her family live in Delhi Township.
