Getting newly elected officials from “now what?” to having the knowledge they need to lead their communities is a top priority for Jeff Jenks, a Huntington Woods City Commissioner and Foundation donor.
“I appreciate what the League and the Foundation are doing,” he said. “And I’m willing to spend the money to make sure other people can attend training and learn.”
The Michigan Municipal League, Jenks said, offers training that is both forward-thinking and practical. Whether it’s revenue sharing, the Freedom of Information Act or legal issues, the Foundation helps make sure local officials can get the best guidance from top experts, he added.
A former League president, Jenks is committed to giving community leaders around the state – not just in his hometown – the opportunity to get the tools they need.
He envisions a time when many individuals and large funders will support the Foundation so that all elected officials can attend the Elected Officials Academy, which would better equip them to fulfill their responsibilities.
“The League is a unique operation and it’s outstanding at what it does,” Jenks said. “Investing in the Foundation allows the League to offer better educational programs and try new things. Communities will benefit from getting elected officials better informed.”
